Part:BBa_J45017
isochorismate pyruvate-lyase and isochorismate synthase (pchBA); converts chorismate to salicylate
BBa_J45017 encodes an isochorismate pyruvate-lyase and an isochorismate synthase derived from the pchBA genes from Pseudomonas aeruginosa. PchA, an isochorismate synthase, catalyzes the conversion of chorismate to isochorismate. The enzyme PchB, an isochorismate pyruvate-lyase, catalyzes the conversion of isochorismate to salicylate and pyruvate. Salicylic acid is the precursor to methyl salicylate (wintergreen odor).
Usage and Biology
pchB and pchA are at the downstream end of the pchDCBA operon that Pseudomonas species use to encode enzymes to make pyochelin, a molecule that helps them acquire iron. BBa_J45017 doesn't make a fusion protein but the coding regions of the two genes do overlap. The RBS for pchA is located at the end of the coding region of pchB.
