PzntA - Inducible Promoter

The zntAp promoter upregulates the zntA gene for the ATPase zinc exporter, ZntA. To decrease high intracellular concentrations of zinc, the zntA gene activates ZntA by the cytosolic zinc-bound transcription factor, ZntR. Zinc ions can enter the cell through mechanosensitive channels that are opened by a stress on the membrane, and can then bind to ZntR. The zntAp promoter is therefore indirectly activated by stress, in which four zinc ions must enter the cell through the msc to bind and activate ZntR. Our system incorporates a region between -35 and -10 b.p. upstream of the zntAp promoter for the zinc-bound ZntR to bind to. Sequence and Features
