2,3-DHB Biosynthesis Construct, with entC and ahpC
This device codes for enzymes that are part of the biosynthetic pathway of enterobactin, a compound with a strong affinity for iron (III) ions, which are naturally produced by bacteria to sequester this essential trace nutrient. The specific aim of this construct is increasing the production of 2,3-DHB, an intermediate that is itself a strong coordinator to Fe (III) ions. Upregulating production of this small molecule should grant bacteria the ability to increase dissolution of insoluble iron (III) compounds like iron (III) oxide.
