LtrB Group II intron Front Segment

A Group II intron is a retrohoming element that can mediate the insertion of itself to a certain location of DNA. The Lactococcus lactis LtrB intron is a group II intron that can target the ligated-exon sequence of the L. lactis ltrB gene. The general structure of wildtype LtrB Group II intron is showed in Figure 1.

Figure 1. The strucure of wildtype Ll.LtrB Group II intron. The intron contains a ORF that encodes a protein referred as LtrA, which is reseponsible for the mature and intergratation of intron RNA into DNA molecules.

This part is the fist segment of non-transcriptional RNA, from the begining of the RNA transcript to the start condon of LtrB.
