Usage and Biology

mamE is a 2172bp in length and it was extracted from the genome of Magnetospirillum magneticum strain AMB-1 by [http://2011.igem.org/Team:Washington UW iGEM Team 2011]. The gene number is AMB-0963. It was reported as membrane-bound serine protease required for magnetite formation; it might also associate with the localization of other magnetosome proteins.
