Asaia replication origin


This biobrick was obtained by PCR on the pHM2-GFP plasmid (reference). The Asaia that contained this plasmid was provided to us by the team of Prof. Guido Favia from Dipartimento di Medicina Sperimentale e Sanità Pubblica, Università degli Studi di Camerino, 62032 Camerino, Italy.

Asaia is a gram negativ bacterium, member of the family of acetic acid bacteria in the alpha-Proteobacteria. [http://2010.igem.org/Team:EPF_Lausanne/Project_asaia Asaia] is naturally present in the gut of at least four mosquito species, which are responsible for the transmission of Malaria (Anopheles stephensi, Anopheles gambiae, Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus).


This origin of replication works is Asaia and E.coli. No other bacteria were tested but from [http://www.mobitec.com/int/products/bio/04_vector_sys/pbbr122.html the literature] we know that it works in many gram-negative bacteria.
