LtrB Group II intron Front Segment

A Group II intron is a retro-homing element that can mediate the insertion of itself to a certain location of DNA. The Lactococcus lactis LtrB intron is a group II intron that can target the ligated-exon sequence of the L. lactis ltrB gene. The general structure of wildtype LtrB Group II intron is showed in Figure 1.

Figure 1. The structure of wild-type Ll.LtrB Group II intron. The intron contains an ORF that encodes a protein referred as LtrA, which is responsible for the mature and integration of intron RNA into DNA molecules.

This part is the fist segment of non-transcriptional RNA, from the beginning of the RNA transcript to the start codon of LtrB.
