SAM:jasmonic acid carboxyl methyltransferase; converts jasmonic acid to jasmine odor
This ORF encodes the enzyme responsible for catalyzing the following reaction:
Jasmonic Acid--->Methyl Jasmonate
It is initially found in Arabidopsis thaliana but has been transferred successfully to the E. coli genome by Seo, et al. The product, methyl jasmonate has a jasmine smell to it. For more information, see http://openwetware.org/wiki/IGEM:MIT/2006/Notebook/2006-6-6.
Usage and Biology
- 1 mM jasmonic acid and 1 mM S-adenosyl methionine (SAM)
- Seo et al. were able to get the enzyme, purified from E. coli, to catalyze the jasmine-smelling reaction in vitro.
- Km: 38.5 μM; Kcat:25 S−1
