LysS

Lysine-tRNA ligase LysS is a vital component of the aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases family, responsible for linking amino acids to their respective tRNA molecules through ATP hydrolysis. LysS belongs to the subclass IIB of aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases. In E. coli, there are both a constitutive (LysS) and an inducible (LysU) lysyl-tRNA synthetase, with LysU being noted as more error-prone.

Studies have delved into the ATP binding site using affinity labeling techniques. Additionally, critical residues essential for recognizing the cognate amino acid and catalytic activity have been pinpointed. This research provides valuable insights into the distinctions between class I and class II tRNA synthetases. Furthermore, a model for understanding the specificity of the cognate anticodon recognition is presented.
