Usage and Biology

This gene is a β-Lactam Receptor derived from Staphylococcus aureus and encodes a signal transducer membrane protein, whose surface domain binds to β-lactams covalently. This Part serves as a sensing unit of the β-lactams biosensor. Binding of β-lactam leads to allosteric effect of mecR1, degrading mecI.
