Promoter spaCBA for Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG
This promoter is part of the SpaCBA operon in Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG, it is not considered a pathogenic factor, as it is presumed to act as niche-adaptation factors in non-pathogenic lactic acid bacteria. L. rhanmosus GG is considered a probiotic strain for the human species. L. rhamnosus's pili are encoded by the SpaCBA Operon, which itself contains genes for three pilin-proteins (spaC, spaB, and spaA) and one pilin-specific sortase (srtC1). The SpaCBA promoter undergoes constitutive expression, unlike other fimbrial spaFED operon in the same study, for the same species [1]. This promoter is meant to be used for constitutive expression in L. rhamnosus GG, and could possibly be tested in other Lactobacillus strains such as L. casei [1].
