fim E inverts fim S "on" (BBa_T4003) to "off" (BBa_T4004). Fim E binds to the inverted repeats of fim S.


Usage and Biology

fim E is a member of the tyrosine family of site-specific integrases, which includes lambda integrase and XerD/C. fim E is responsible from turning the production E coli K12's fimbrae off in order to evade host immune response.
