Chlamydomonas reinhardtii chloroplast

The sequence is the ORF encoding the chloroplast of the Chlamydomonas reinhardtii. This unicellular green algae undergoes photosynthesis, without the presence of light, producing oxygen. Chlamydomonas reinhardtii is currently being researched in response to light, cell to cell recognition, cell mobility, and response to mineral nutrition. This part could then be tested to find ideal conditions to maximize the production of oxygen. After ideal conditions have been found, then making this part compatible in the human body would be the next step. Hopefully, this part could be incorporated into human lungs to increase oxygen presence in the lungs. Having more oxygen in the lungs could directly increase the amount of oxygen absorbed in the blood stream.

Usage and Biology

See: "Genome-Based Examination of Chlorophyll and Carotenoid Biosynthesis in Chlamydomonas reinhardtii." (2005) by M. Lohr, C. Im, and A. Grossman issued in "Plant Physiology", May 2005, Vol. 138, pp. 490-515.

Sequence was taken from the complete genome of the Chlamydomonas reinhardtii chloroplast found on the National Center for Biotechnology Information website.
