Aga2 gene protein
Adhesion subunit of a-agglutinin of a-cells, C-terminal sequence acts as a ligand for alpha-agglutinin during agglutination, modified with O-linked oligomannosyl chains, linked to anchorage subunit Aga1p via two disulfide bonds.

Introduction
a-Agglutinin is a cell adhesion glycoprotein expressed on the cell wall of Saccharomyces cerevisiae a cells. Binding of a-agglutinin to its ligand a-agglutinin, expressed by a cells, mediates cell-cell contact during mating. a-Agglutinin contains a high proportion of 0-linked carbohydrate and consists of two subunits, a core subunit (AGAl), which mediates cell surface attachment, and a binding subunit (Aga2), which interacts with ot-agglutinin.
High impact information on AGA2
1) Mating type-specific agglutination of Saccharomyces cerevisiae and alpha cells depends on the heterophilic interaction of two cell surface glycoproteins, the gene products of AGA1 and AGA2. 2)Mutagenesis of AGA2 identified only C-terminals residues of AGA2 as being essential for binding activity. 3)Cell wall attachment of AGA2 is mediated through two disulfide bonds to AGA1. 4)Mutation of either of both AGA2 cysteine residues eliminate stabilization of AGA2.
