Enteropeptidase from Homo sapiens optimized for E. coli

Enteropeptidase is an enzyme secreted in the small intestine necessary for digestion in humans. It is necessary for trypsin activation and acts as a serine protease.

Enteropeptidase converts the zymogen trypsinogen to trypsin by selectively cleaving the 6-Lys-|-Ile-7 bond. This in turn activates other pancreatic proteolytic proenzymes such as chymotrypsinogen, procarboxypeptidases, and proelastases [1].
