This basic part codes for a silver binding peptide, AG4, which catalyses the reduction of cationic silver (Ag+) into the formation of metallic nanoparticles. The peptide was originally identified by Naik, et al (Nature Materials, 2002), from a phage display library by slecting for phages that exhibited selective affinity for silver.
