Bioluminescent marine species such as Aliivibrio, Photobacterium or Vibrio, possess light-emitting systems, using the lux genes, the lux operon.
This BioBrick part was cloned from Photobacterium phosphoreum NCMB844. The original gene contained one XbaI site in the luxC gene, and a XbaI and EcoRI site in the luxC gene. In order to make it useful in a BioBrick format, we made mutations in these restriction sites by overlap extension PCR to get rid of them.
Promoter, RBS and terminator, added to this part is registered in BioBrick as BBa_K769011.
