Mitochondrial targeting sequence for Aspergillus nidulans
This part is a mitochondrial targeting sequence (MTS) for Aspergillus nidulans. The MTS is a DNA fragment encoding the N-terminal 60 amino acids of AcuJ from A. nidulans.
Usage and Biology
A MTS is usually required for the entry of proteins and intermediary metabolites into mitochondria. Placing this MTS at the N-terminal of a gene of interest should result in the localization of the protein into the mitochondria (1).
