Thrombin-29 aptamer
The thrombin-29 aptamer was originally characterized by Tasset et al. in 1997. The 29mer specifically targets the heparin-binding site through hydrophobic interactions of the duplex, and is believed to have higher binding affinity than other aptamers.
The thrombin-29 aptamer can be used as a positive control in studies of experimental aptamers. The 2023 NYCEmpireState team incubated thrombin-29 aptamer with thrombin as a positive-control to determine that the team's electrophoretic mobility shift assay (EMSA) was functional.
