Part:BBa_K4831002
MerB alkylmercury lyase from E. coli (seq. harmonized for Synechocystis sp. PCC6803)
Overview
MerB protein is an Organomercurial lyase that cleaves the bond between C-Hg and releases Hg(II) in addition to the appropriate organic compound. It can be used as a combination with merA, which is a mercuric reductase. Together or alone, merB can be used to increase the resistance to organic mercury (methyl mercury) or mercuric compounds like mercuric (II)chloride. It can be used as a tool for bioremediation.
Design Notes
The sequences codons have been harmonized for optimal translation in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803 (127 changed codons, GC-change 56.6 to 51.1%). NOTE! starting codon ATG has been removed to be compatible with our composite part (reading frame shift).
