Part:BBa_K4831000
MerA (mercuric reductase) from Synechocystis sp. PCC6803
Overview
MerA protein catalyzes the reduction of mercuric ion (Hg2+) to elemental mercury. The merA -gene codes for mercuric reductase (EC 1.16.1.1) that catalyzes the reduction of toxic ionic mercury (Hg2+) to less volatile and toxic elemental mercury (Hg0). It can be used as a combination with merB, which is a organomercury lyase. Together or alone, merA can be used to increase the resistance to organic mercury (methyl mercury) or mercuric compounds like mercuric (II)chloride. It can be used as a tool for bioremediation.
Design Notes
This part is from Synechocystis sp PCC6803. One codon was changed to avoid illegal restriction sites for BsaI or SapI. NOTE! starting codon ATG has been removed to be compatible with our composite part (reading frame shift).
