T7 promoter
the T7 promoter originates from the T7 phage and is specifically bound by the T7 RNA polymerase to initiate transcription. Generally, E. coli strains do not have T7 RNA polymerase, so when the target protein is expressed through T7 promoter, the host bacterium must contain an inducible copy of the T7 RNA polymerase gene.
