ABC Transporter ATP Binding Protein
St(r)epB (BBa_K4590002) is used in conjunction with St(r)epC (BBa_K45900003). It encodes an ABC Transporter ATP Binding Protein, which is a subunit of an ABC transporter. Membrane transporters are mechanisms of antibiotic resistance, as they decrease the cytoplasmic concentration of these compounds sending them to the extracellular medium. Intracellular accumulation of antibiotics can trigger negative feedback systems as mechanisms of defense to avoid self-intoxication. By overexpressing the ABC transporter, we aim to increase the export of Cosmomycin, a secondary metabolite, minimizing possible feedback mechanisms (Arteaga et. al 2022).
