OspA
Outer surface protein for B. burgdorferi, target of detection due to its high concentration within 72 hours of a bite. Used to modify E. coli to act as a model organism in Lyme disease research.
Optimizing this sequence for E. coli allows for the design of a model organism that satisfies BSL-1 laboratory requirements. This provides more opportunities to test novel Lyme disease detection systems in the future.
OspA is expressed on the surface of B. burgdorferi and functions as a signal transducer or as a receptor. The OspA sequence we optimized is BBa_K3767004 from iGEM21_Queens_Canada.
