Human IR
The human insulin receptor is a transmembrane protein expressed on epithelial cells of different tissues and binds to insulin present in the blood flow. The insulin receptor present in the lumen of blood vessels in the brain is involved in the transport of insulin from the blood into the brain by active transport through the Blood Brain Barrier. The 2022 NYC_Empire_State iGEM team used the human insulin receptor coding sequence to test the integrity and activity of fusion proteins capable of crossing the Blood Brain Barrier.
