PstHXT1 (from Puccinia striiformis var. striiformis)
Profile
Gene Name: PstHXT1
Subcellular localisation: Plasma membrane
Length (bp): 1596
Amino acids length: 530
Organism of origin: Puccinia striiformis var. striiformis
Properties and Biology
PstHXT1 is a hexose transporter protein of 56.8kDa molecular weight and is predicted to contain 12 transmembrane domains (Chang et. al., 2020). Localised exclusively to the plasma membrane of the haustoriun structure, PstHXT1 is thought to be integral in establishing an interaction between wheat and Puccinia rust species (Garnica et. al., 2014). Experimentally, this protein has been successfully expressed in the yeast mutant strain EBY.VW4000 (Chang et. al., 2020).
Usage
As part of the 2022 UNSW_Australia project to design a peptide based inhibitor for Puccinia sp., we used PstHXT1 as a potential target. This protein was expressed in NEB TURBO E.coli cells.
