GlpQ - A Wall Teichoic Acid (WTA) degrading enzyme
GlpQ is a phosphodiester enzyme secreted by B. subtilis during phosphate limitation and is used to degrade Wall Teichoic Acid (WTA) which serves as a phosphate reserve in phosphate limiting conditions. GlpQ catalyses exolytic cleavage of individual monomer units for WTA. The action of GlpQ to degrade WTA is accompanied by the enzyme PhoD which catalyses endo-hydrolysis at non-specific sites throughout the WTA polymer.
This part was amplified from B. subtilis genomic DNA to include the consensus B. subtilis RBS sequence BBa_K090505.
