exoB2 gene from Azospirillum brasilense
exoB and exoB2 being UDP-glucose 4-epimerases, are homodimeric epimerases involved in the final step of galactose metabolism, also known as the Leroir pathway. They are involved in the reversible conversion of UDP-galactose to UDP-glucose. They require the cofactor NAD+ for their functional activity. Their upregulation has been shown to increase the production of exopolysaccharides though the exact mechanism is not known.
