EGF: Human epidermal growth factor

Epidermal growth factor (EGF) is a protein that stimulates cell growth and differentiation by binding to its receptor, EGFR. Human EGF is 6-kDa and has 53 amino acid residues and three intramolecular disulfide bonds. The EGF gene we selected for our experiment is NM_001178130.3 (Homo sapiens epidermal growth factor (EGF), transcript variant 2). It has a molecular weight of 23.1 kDa. We used EGF to promote the growth of epidermal cells and fibroblasts. The EGF gene was ligated on the adeno-associated virus pBEK plasmid (gift of Y. Liang, Beijing Normal University) used in our study. In application, the IL-2 Signal Sequence (BBa_K4211002) can be fused at the N-terminal of the EGF gene to promote EGF secretion out of the cell.

We used EGF and bFGF (BBa_K4211001) to stimulate the growth of epidermal cells and fibroblasts.
