A promoter that is inhibited by LacI.
Lac operator is added downstream of the promoter p(Bla) from E. coli transposon Tn3. Promoter p(Bla) was originally a medium-strength constitutive promoter, but the downstream lac operator could bind to LacI protein to repress promoter p(Bla). IPTG (Isopropylthiogalactoside) binds to LacI and inhibits its operation, therefore promoting transcription.
