The lactose operon is a group of genes involved in lactose breakdown, consisting of repressors and manipulating sequences of the lactose system, making a set of genes related to lactose metabolism regulated synchronously. It has negative regulation mechanism: induce the inactivation of lactose: repressor protein, shedding from LacO, (+) transcription; lactose deficiency: repressor protein binds to LacO, RNA polymerase cannot bind to LacP, (-) transcription. Positive regulation mechanism: can induce activator: CAPorCRP (cAMP binding protein), CRP-cAMP and initiator gene binding, (+) transcription.
