CAP Biding site
This part is composed of the site for the catabolite activator protein to bind. The Escherichia coli catabolite activator protein activates transcription for the lac promoter (BBa_M36411) by binding to its specific DNA sites in the presence of cAMP and thus enhancing the ability of RNA polymerase to bind and initiate transcription [1]. Promoter activity is also influenced by glucose levels: in its absence cAMP levels are high and the complex cAMP+CAP binds to lac promoter, beginning transcription. In the presence of glucose, cAMP levels are low and promoter activity is inhibited. It is then the simplest but effective transcription activation in bacteria cultures like E. coli and B. subtilis [1].
