Quorum Sensing Kill Circuit
This device is intended for the genetic containment of recombinant bacteria. The circuit will kill cells that venture outside the intended area of use (and thus are in low population). Detection of effective population size is accomplished through quorum sensing via the N-Acyl Homoserine Lactone (AHL) molecule 3OC6HSL, and cell fatality is accomplished by expression of mazF.

Characterization
The 2021 Hopkins iGEM team used SimBiology (MATLAB toolbox) to computationally predict the activity of this circuit. SimBiology predicts that under low AHL (low population) conditions, the cells will overexpress MazF. In high AHL conditions, SimBiology predicts that cells will have a low basal leaky expression of MazF. Plotted are curves for mazF molecule count when the system is initially challenged with a specified amount of AHL molecules.
