Part:BBa_K3813031
NOTOC HER-2 Protein Coding Sequence
This part codes for Her-2. This part consists of the protein-coding sequence for Receptor tyrosine-protein kinase erbB-2(Her-2), a biomarker that is used in the detection of breast cancer. Her-2 is a highly established biomarker for breast cancer, with studies showing that the protein has played a role in breast cancer detection over the recent years. The protein-coding sequence from this part was found via NCBI but we adapted the sequence to meet iGEM registry standards by inducing silent mutations that would not affect the sequence of amino acids. We used this part to construct a plasmid that would produce Her-2 in an E.Coli system to model the conditions of the body of patients with breast cancer.
To see the application of this part, please see the following composite parts.

We were successfully able to express the Her-2 biomarker in 7 of the 9 constructs. For the second phase of our two-year project, we plan on testing the binding affinity of Her-2 to our aptamers to better simulate situations in the human body and will hopefully use results from there to improve this part.
