Nap is a dissimilatory, periplasmic nitrate reductase which is expressed under aerobic conditions and is required for aerobic denitrification [1]. Nap reduces nitrate (NO3-) to nitrite (NO2-). Nap is the first enzyme in the denitrification pathway.
