benABCD cluster (Acinetobacter baylyi)
The benABCD gene cluster encodes for the benzene degradation pathway that degrades benzene into catecol. The cluster encodes for a benzoate 1,2-dioxygenase (benABC) which converts benzene into Cis-1,2-dihydroxycyclohexadiene. This is converted to catecol by the benD encoded dehydrogenase.
