Part:BBa_K3670001
algD promoter with luxI and luxR followed by mCherry
This is essentially a composite part that involves the algD promoter, LuxI and LuxR, and mCherry. All of these parts complement each other and characterize the system to be a bio-detector for RDX, a nitro-explosive. The algD promoter is an inducible promoter that activates under the presence of RDX. Activation of this promoter gives way to the gene expression of LuxI and LuxR. The LuxI gene produces a synthase that converts SAM into acyl-homoserine lactone (AHL), which can diffuse across cell membranes, allowing for quorum sensing to take place. In the case of LuxR, when bound to AHL, it produces a protein that can stimulate transcription from the right-hand lux promoter (LuxpR). mCherry works as a reporter gene for this device.
