Cot G - Spore coat proteins that are located in the outermost layer of the coat.

Under extremely stressful conditions such as a lack of nutrients, gram-positive bacteria, for example the Bacillus family, are able to form spores that will be expeled from the mother cells. These spores have a coat layer as an important component in their defense mechanism. This defense system protects the spores against toxic chemical components and repels degradation enzymes. The same coat contains coat proteins (Cot protiens) that are arranged in two main layers - outer and inner layers. These layers form the first line of defense from the external environment. Several articles have shown that the same coat proteins (such as CotC or Cot G) can be used as anchors for heterologous protein displayment. Noa's comment: Explain more about the spores surface display approach

The "Bacillus subtilis spore surface display" (or BSSD) technique can be achieved by assembling a recombinant vector that contains the gene that encodes a coat protein of the B.Sub spores in conjunction with the gene that encodes the desired protein. By transforming this vector to the host strain and encouraging sporulation by appropriate conditions, the desired proteins can be expressed on the surface with high stability and activity.
