Codon optimized tonB gene for Synechococcus sp. CB0101 with restriction sites removed
This construct contains the Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803 tonB gene that has been codon optimized for the CB0101 Synechocystis sp. Strain. TonB is known to be part of an energy-converting complex (with ExbB and ExbD) that allows for the active transport of vitamin B12, iron siderophores, and carbohydrates (Noinaj et al., 2010). The energy dependent uptake is found to occur in the periplasmic space of substrates such as cobalamin and iron compounds such as iron dicitrate. All of the tonB complexes are regulated by Fur and are repressed when the iron amount reaches a certain level (to prevent iron accumulation, which may produce free radicals) (Noinaj et al., 2010).
