Luciferin Regenerating Enzyme (LRE)
P. Pyralis
(E. coli optimised)

LRE (Luciferin Regenerating Enzyme) is a protein found in the light producing lantern organs of fireflies. It catalyses the conversion of oxyluciferin back into luciferin upon the addition of D-cysteine, relieving inhibition of luciferase by oxyluciferin as well as fueling the luciferin pool of the cell.

The ability of a cell to express LRE will increase both the brightness and glowing time of luciferin-requiring luciferases.
