McyA/D bidirectional promoter
This is the putative promoter of microcystin toxin-producing proteins from Microcysis aeruginosa NIES-843. We looked up the promoter sequence in Ensemble Bacteria (http://bacteria.ensembl.org). We found many sequences that differ between strains, by the help of Geneious Prime we found the strain NIES-843 which has the most conservative sequence based on the consensus sequence we got. From the Microcystis promoter transcription can occur in both directions to synthesize the McyABC and McyDEFGHIJ proteins. These proteins are responsible for the nonribosomal peptide synthesis of the toxin, called microcystin. The presence of this toxin enhances the production of toxins in other cells via the phenomenon called autoinduction. For this reason, we could use this promoter in our microcystin detecting device.
