C protein of P2 Bacteriophage
C protein is a transcription factor produced by P2 bacteriophage. It binds to the phagic Early promoter region and regulates genes that induce the lysogenic life cycle. Basic effects are the up-regulation of own promoter, Pc, and inhibition of Pe, the promoter of Cox protein, the main lysis-inducing transcription factor. Thus, the dynamics in the concentrations of C and cox proteins define the life cycle the phage is in. For more information on cox protein, see BBa_K3024001.
