Part:BBa_K2983062
FadX of Trichosanthes kirilowii
This part is an Yarrowia lipolytica codon optimized version of the bifunctional fatty acid conjugase / desaturase (FadX) from Trichosanthes kirilowii (Uniprot Q84UC0).
Usage and Biology
The bifunctional fatty acid conjugase / desaturase FadX (EC: 1.14.19.16) catalyses the conversion of linoleic acid, C18:2 (9Z,12Z) into punicic acid, C18:3 (9Z, 11E, 13Z) (Figure 1).
The Trichosanthes kirilowii (chinese cucumber / chinese snake gourd) FadX (Tk-FadX) [1] is a 44.918 kDa protein of 387 amino acids. It's activity leads to the accumulation of important quantities of punicic acid in the seeds.
When placed them under the control of a constitutive promoter and expressed in the genome of the oleaginous yeast Yarrowia lipolytica, this part leads to the production of punicic acid, a non natural metabolite of Y. lipolytica. For further details, see the Main Page on the Registry of the Tk-FadX expression plasmid (BBa_K2983182) that is able to integrate, upon transformation, into the genome of a Y. lipolytica Po1d stain.
