CD63
CD63 is a cell-surface protein, which belongs to the tetraspanin family. It distributes densely on membranes of intracellular vesicles and exosomes. CD63 is usually used as a marker for multivesicular bodies, and it can also be used for quantifying CD63-containing EVs. CD63 can be fused with other proteins to combine functional devices to the exosomal membrane. The XJTLU iGEM team 2018 fused it with nluc (BBa_K2619004) for quick and simple quantification of exosomes. It was also fused with RNA-binding proteins for exosomal packaging of mRNA.
