FLO1 gene triggers the yeast flocculation
S.cerevisiae flocculation FLO1 genes codes the FLO1 protein and is located in Saccharomyces cerevisiae strain S288c chromosome I from 203403bp to 208016bp. FLO1 protein spans the cell membrane, which C terminal has a GPI anchored protein and N terminal is in extracellular space. FLO1 protein's N terminal can combine mannose on adjacent cell's cell wall so as to trigger the accumulation of yeasts.
Reference: FLO gene's function contains Lectin-like protein involved in flocculation; cell wall protein that binds mannose chains on the surface of other cells, confers floc-forming ability that is chymotrypsin sensitive and heat resistant; important for co-flocculation with other yeasts, mediating interaction with specific species.Kobayashi, O., Hayashi, N., Kuroki, R., & Sone, H.
