This sequence is a protein coding region which codes for fatty acyl desaturase enzyme in cyanobacteria, Synechococcus elongatus PCC 6803. With the help of this desaturase enzyme, PCC 6803 able to improve its cold tolerance by increasing the level of unsaturated fatty acids thus increase membrane fluidity.
