PCQuad 3.0 Wildtype
The PCQuad gene codes for the production of one subunit of a protein cage. Each subunit is made up of a dimer protein(M1 Matrix) and a trimer protein(Bromoperoxidase) fused by an alpha helical linker. Expression of this subunit will lead to the self assembly of a tetrahedral structured protein cage. Protein cages, are self assembling supramolecular protein structures where multiple protein subunits interact non covalently to form a higher order structure. Our protein cage, PCquad, is a 12 subunit cage where each subunit is a fusion of two naturally oligomerizing proteins -- a trimer(Bromoperoxidase) and a dimer(M1 Matrix). The alpha helical fusion protein that links the trimer and dimer fixes them in a very specific orientation allowing for self assembly once subunits interact with each other.
