Laterosporulin
This part is a functional BioBrick contain the coding region of Laterosporulin, with promoter, RBS and terminator. Laterosporulin is a bacteriocin produced by Brevibacillus sp. strain, and exhibit a broad spectrum of antibacterial activity against bacterias like: B. subtilis , S. aureus, E. coli, P. aeruginosa, and L. monocytogenes.
B. subtilis and S. aureus are more sensitive to the bacteriocin than other strains. Laterosprulin inhibits growth of bacteria by increasing the permeability of important substances for bacterial survival, such as ions, amino acids, ATP, etc..
Lateroporulin contains many polar amino acids, here the most important is cystein. These polar amino acids gives it a amin oacid profile that is comparable with human beta-defensin-like proteins. The beta defensins are antimicrobial peptides implicated in the resistance of epithelial surfaces to microbial colonization.
