RhtA
RhtA is a membrane protein that is involved in the efflux of threonine and homoserine. Can also export other aminoacids such as proline, serine, histidine, cysteine and aminolevulinic acid.
RhtA exporter, encoded by rhtA gene in E. coli, exports 5-ALA due to its broad substrate specificity. 5-ALA has similar chemical structure to glycylglycine and its physical properties are close to native amino acids carrying uncharged side chains, thus making it possible to be exported via this threonine/homoserine exporter expressed by rhtA gene.
