Part:BBa_K1970003
Single deoxynucleotide ribonuclease that binds to and degrades CI repressor mRNA
This gene, which is placed under the control of lacI, is transcribed into a particular type of single stranded DNA called deoxynucleotide ribonuclease. It targets the mRNA of the CI repressor protein, cleaving it after binding. This results in reduced or completely eliminated expression of the CI repressor gene, depending on the strength of the promoter used to control expression.
This gene is designed to be used in conjunction with another ribonuclease which targets and degrades CI repressor mRNA. The two genes target different parts of the mRNA. If expressed together, the ribonucleases bind to each other with higher affinity than to the CI repressor mRNA, in theory stopping the degradation of CI repressor mRNA.
Designed to work in conjunction with BBa_K1970002 for XOR gate like repression of CI repressor mRNA.
